A Look at Finetown, South Africa To many people, there is nothing really fine about Finetown, an informal settlement south of Johannesburg, South Africa. It appears as only a community of makeshift, haphazardly build corrugated iron houses, few paved streets, and no side walks. It is a place where few people enjoy the luxury of running water and even fewer still have electricity. Dirt floors with no amenities come standard in these semi-permanent and often overcrowded dwellings. Yet Finetown is a growing reality in the developing world. With no other option people settle in these dreadful areas located near urban centers. Lacking any infrastructure, the poor sanitation and equally poor living conditions, places like Finetown are often the hardest hit by disease. If the world is to find a sustainable answer for the global HIV/AIDS pandemic and other health problems, the answer will need to work in the Finetowns of the world. For Biomed Comm, Finetown has become an very important town. With help from the Don Bosco school in Finetown, Biomed Comm and the University of Johannesburg were able to conduct a successful research study. The study again verified previously conducted research on HIV+ adults in the US. Once again CSE 20 proved to be an effective natural treatment option for HIV/AIDS symptoms. However this study in South Africa showed that CSE 20 treatment is also safe for HIV+ children. With validation of previous research and success in an area like Finetown, Biomed Comm is optimistic about the future of world health. Cell Signal Enhancement technology may soon prove to be an affordable and sustainable form of healthcare for people throughout the globe. |
